The Messenger of Allah [peace be upon him] said: “Frequent your reflection on the destroyer of worldly pleasures (i.e. death).” [Tirmidhi: 2307 and Ibn Majah: 4258]

The aim was not to produce morbidity in his followers but rather to remind them that life in this world is short and that we are here to achieve a certain goal, on which we are to focus. This is why when the famous companion `Abdullah ibn `Umar [may Allah be pleased with him] heard the narration of the prophet “Be in the Dunya as if you are (merely) a stranger or a wayfarer,” he commented: “When night comes do not wait for the morning and when morning arrives do not delay till the night. Take of your health for when you are sick and of your life for when you are dead.” [Bukhari: 6416]

In order to best achieve this goal we should ideally possess a detailed and authentic understanding of death. It will produce greater motivation to do the good and to avoid the sinful. This is where this course comes in. It aims at providing the attendee with comprehensive coverage of the Islamic understanding of the nature of death and what comes after death until entry into either Paradise or Hell. Topics will include:

  • Before Death: Being ready, the nature of death, the angel of death and immediately thereafter
  • Funeral Rites: Washing, Shrouding, Salah al-Janazah and Burial
  • Inheritance and Related Matters
  • Life in the Barzakh [the grave-world]
  • The Day of Judgment [Qiyamah]
  • Resurrection and Reckoning
  • The Bridge and Visitation of Hell
  • Paradise and Hell

Discussions will be referenced with related Quranic verses and prophetic traditions [ahadith nabawiyyah] to ensure authenticity. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions on the above topics and receive authentic answers provided by the illustrious scholars of Islam.
